Winter Watchlist: Crime, Courtrooms and Cold Nights In

30 October 2025

As the nights draw in and court corridors get colder, there’s no shame in embracing a little winter hibernation. After a long day juggling clients, caseloads and courtrooms, a gripping drama can be exactly what you need to unwind – and if it happens to be crime, legal or police related, all the better.

Here are some new and returning TV series to add to your watchlist this winter – all packed with intrigue, sharp dialogue, and a healthy dose of professional relatability.

New Series to Discover

All’s Fair (Hulu/Disney+ – premiers November 2025)
Created by Ryan Murphy, this high-octane legal drama follows a powerhouse team of female divorce lawyers who are as fierce in the courtroom as they are in their personal lives. Expect glamour, grit and plenty of legal fireworks – perfect for anyone who enjoys seeing lawyers on the front foot.

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth (Peacock / NOW)
Starring Colin Firth, this five-part limited series revisits the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing over Scotland, exploring the international investigation that followed. A haunting and meticulously crafted true-crime drama that reminds us how justice and humanity often intersect in difficult places.

Missing You (Netflix)
Adapted from Harlan Coben’s bestselling novel, this mystery follows Detective Kat Donovan, whose fiancé vanished a decade ago – until his face suddenly appears on a dating app. A slick, emotional thriller that asks how well we ever really know the people we love.

Out There (ITV/ITVX)
Set in Bradford, this new crime series follows a police officer forced to reconnect with his estranged – and criminally entangled – family while investigating a local murder. A gritty northern drama full of moral grey areas and family secrets.

Virdee (BBC One/BBC iPlayer)
Based on A.A. Dhand’s novels, Virdee centres on a police officer working in a community he’s become estranged from, facing personal and professional risks at every turn. Expect tension, compassion and complex social themes.

The Stolen Girl (Disney+)
From the producers behind Harlan Coben’s adaptations, this psychological thriller follows two mothers facing the unthinkable when one woman’s son goes missing during a playdate. Dark, emotional and full of twists.

Bookish (Alibi / NOW)
A period-set mystery starring Mark Gatiss as an antiquarian bookshop owner who assists the police in solving unusual crimes. Expect cerebral puzzles, dry wit and sumptuous production design — think Sherlock meets The Detectorists.

Returning Favourites

Unforgotten – Series 6 (ITV/ITVX)
DCI Jessie James and DI Sunny Khan return with another chilling cold case — a dismembered body in Whitney Marsh. Meticulous police work meets quiet emotional depth in this fan-favourite drama.

Blue Lights – Series 3 (BBC)
This acclaimed Belfast-based series continues to impress. Season 3 delves into the world of white-collar crime — and the lawyers who enable it. Sharp, tense and socially conscious.

Trigger Point – Series 3 (ITV1)
Vicky McClure reprises her role as bomb disposal officer Lana Washington, racing to stop a new campaign of revenge attacks. Explosive (literally) viewing.

Slow Horses – Season 5 (Apple TV+)
Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb and his team of MI5 misfits return for another round of espionage and dark humour. Expect sardonic wit, bureaucratic chaos and a new conspiracy involving a tech whizz and bizarre goings-on across London.

Settle In and Switch Off

Whether you’re snowed under with files or simply in need of a break from the courtroom chaos, these dramas are the perfect companion for long winter nights. So put the kettle on (or pour something stronger), grab a blanket, and let someone else solve the crimes for a change.
